How do you mean they’re still showing an auto-generated description? In Google? That’ll always happen when your meta description doesn’t contain the searched for keyword…

In the titles section of the settings, I have added %%excerpt%% to the description box for posts. However, when I view the source code of the posts on my site, they are showing the meta description with the first bit of content on the site, not the excerpts I have written.

I use a W3 cache, and have purged the cache, but its still the first bit of content on the page that is being used, not the excerpts.

Did you clear the object cache too? Can you give me your site’s URL so I can check?

    Yes I cleared the cache.

Could you try if %%excerpt_only%% works any better?

I tried that already. It didn’t work either.

Where do you enter the excerpt, can you show a screenshot of that? (to make sure it’s not doing something wrong…)

Sorry, it is working OK. The meta descriptions I was seeing as the start of the page started off with:

property=”og:description” and not meta description, which is correctly using the excerpt. Sorry to have wasted your time. Damn Facebook adding that (I assume it’s Facebook).

    Thanks for all your help.
