[Plugin: WordPress SEO by Yoast] %%excerpt%% tag not working for description

it seems the %%excerpt%% tag is no longer working for my descriptions..
an example page is https://www.bellasante.com/specials
When I look at the source I get the message.
Admin only notice: this page doesn’t show a meta description because it doesn’t have one, either write it for this page specifically or go into the SEO -> Titles menu and set up a templateIts none of the other plugins interfering as well
