[Plugin: WordPress SEO by Yoast] Inconsistent Trailing Slash on Custom Post Types

Love this plugin, but I found an error that is creating some perceived duplicate content issues with Google using the following configurations:

Permalink structure: /%postname%
Wordpress SEO option “Enforce a trailing slash on all category and tag URL’s” checked / enabled

Using the above, custom post type permalinks malfunction. The custom post types are accessible at the /%postname% permalink, however the plugin rewrites the permalinks to show up with a trailing slash (/%postname%/) on all archive pages, which it then automatically redirects back to /%postname% upon clicking the links to the custom post type single post view. Additionally, it gives the default canonical url for the custom post type posts incorrectly with the trailing slash. That can be remedied by manually specifying the canonical urls for custom post types. However I cannot figure out how to make the urls show up correctly as /%postname% without it adding a trailing slash.

For an example of the aforemention issue visit the following url, which features one of my custom post type posts: https://www.cardboardconnection.com/player/steve-nash . If you try adding a trailing slash you are automatically redirected back to that url. Originally it specified the canonical url for that custom post type post as “https://www.cardboardconnection.com/player/steve-nash/” but I manually overrode it to be “https://www.cardboardconnection.com/player/steve-nash”.

Now look at how it appears on my archive pages: https://www.cardboardconnection.com/player/ OR
https://www.cardboardconnection.com/basketball/basketball-rookie-cards/

If you hover over the article title link, you’ll see that it links to https://www.cardboardconnection.com/player/steve-nash/ . Clicking that link will then automatically redirect to https://www.cardboardconnection.com/player/steve-nash. Google Webmasters tools is flagging these pages as duplicate content, and Google Analytics is counting them as two separate pages.

Disabling the WordPress SEO plugin fixes the inconsistencies – but I really want to keep this plugin. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?
