[Plugin: WordPress SEO by Yoast] New 1.2.6 Update Stopped Most of my WordPress Functions

Wow. I had updated one of my sites today and nothing was working either so I went to the settings, permalinks re-saved and all is fine. Even after writing post and stuff.

I don’t understand what you mean – you went to Settings & resaved Permalinks and that resolved your issue?

I just tried that and NOTHING works.

There was a new update to SEO by Yoast today (just this minute) – I hopefully applied it and reactivated the plugin and again NONE of the WP functions work: I cannot open Categories, Post Tags, Help – NOTHING. I cannot manually add tags, etc. NOTHING.

It was working just fine thru yesterday until I updated the plugin. When I completely disable the plugin, everything works fine again.

There is obviously a conflict in the new update that is causing this. Please can SEO Yoast fix this?

Just a thought – Is the issue that I’m in WP 3.2.1?

I have not upgraded as I just didn’t want to have to fuss with a bunch of possible functionality issues with plugins and everything on my WP site has been working just fine without the upgrade until the SEO 1.2.6 upgrade yesterday.

Please can someone fix or respond? I know I’m not the only one having this issue and I’d certainly love to have my SEO with Yoast back! If you’re working on fixing this giant bug, please let us know!

I’m not on multi-site, but I had to upgrade to WP 3.4.1 to get rid of the problems with this.

I am not sure if that is the case to me, but since I also noticed some strange things after the update, here it goes:

html tags on the editor are not working fine. For instance, I always place adsense codes manually, depending on the post size and format. It has worked fine since then, but now, every time I place the code using the <p style="text-align: center;"> it modifys all the post, no matter if I set the next paragraph to justify, whenever I change tabs to html and back to visual, it screws the post again. In addition, a Ultimate Shortcode visual editor, which worked just fine till then, also stoped working. the codes work on front end, but it is really a crap to html your posts three or four times a day…

btw: using latest versions of SEO and WP

Is there a way to go back and use the older version of SEO? I don’t know how to undo the upgrade once we’ve done one. If anyone knows how that would be great as the last version (before yesterday) worked swell!

I think the process may do a lot of damage, and I really trust joost work, so I will wait a bit to see what he’s about to tell us. Maybe bug fixing next release within a few hours. I also noticed there is some conflict going on with the facebook plugin, and have warned in another thread.

I advise you to wait a bit, and study it carefully if you are not, like I am not, very used to do such things. Or, as is my case, don’t wanna ruin a more then one year work.

Thanks Fred – I agree! I’m just keeping SEO disabled for now and giving Joost a week or so to work out whatever the bugs are. He’s never had a problem I’m aware of before, so I also trust that he’s doing his best to fix everything and it will all work out.

I just wondered if one could undo an upgrade, if it was something simple, but I don’t want to do anything that will cause a ton of headaches.

I’ll just be patient!

This is never recommended, whether you are running WordPress SEO or not. WP has always screwed this up. I shut the Visual Editor off completely and make by edits in the HTML editor only. I’m comfortable with it, as I manually edit in Notepad++ for all other sites anyway, so having a visual editor is essentially useless. Just open the post in another tab and see what it really looks like. Relying on the visual editor is always only an approximation, at best.

You’re right, it’s always been a bad feature, and WP should improve it. However, after deactivating wp-seo it did improve a bit. For example, after the update, when ever using ul it would the html would turn like this: <ul> <ul> <ul> <ul> <li>text</li> </ul> </ul> </ul> </ul> <ul> <ul> <ul> <ul> <li>text</li> </ul> </ul> </ul> </ul><ul> <ul> <ul> <ul> <li>text</li> </ul> </ul> </ul> </ul>
Literally, besides, the one paragraph being <p style="text-align:center;"></p> the other <p style="text-align:justify;"></p>
Would turn into a single <p style="text-align:center;"></p> which stopped ocurring after deactivating. I am sure you can prepare html drafts on notes and simply copy and paste. I do that for some sort of posts on my website, but not for all, for most of them don’t need it. And of course, using the visual editor, although not always accurate, may be very practical depending on the work you’re doing, and who you are working with. Most people are not used with html, and the visual has worked fine to my collaborators so far, untill this update started working odd. And it is a matter of the WP-Seo, cause it all started after update, and stoped after deactivation.
Moreover, recent wp-seo has come with an opengraph feature, which is conflicting with proper facebook plugin, and it shouldn’t. I have posted a thread here on this, but it hasn’t been answer by joost. Which is a shame.

Well, people who need the visual editor should have no problem using only it. Switching back and forth is the problem. Also had a problem with After the Deadline screwing with my posts by unnecessarily changing stuff that it thought should be changed (and it shouldn’t be messing with in the first place—like color styles), so stopped using it.

I don’t do that, I just use the HTML editor straight out of the box.

One of my clients just wrote to say he couldn’t do much of anything in his admin area. I logged in. The main problems are with widgets, you can’t open them to edit, you can’t drag them over. You also can’t use any of the pull down arrows on anything, including screen options, help and the items on the left hand column.

I disabled plugins one by one and when I disabled WP SEO, the problems went away. I know he wants and needs that plugin on his site, but until a solution to that can be found, we’ll have to keep it disabled.

Any thought? Anyone else have this issue? Did you find a solution?

No, not at all. I activated it just to check this, but it seems there’s no problem with that.
