[Plugin: WordPress SEO by Yoast] Search engines collecting wrong text (from post) for metadata on ho

  • Hi, firstly, an excellent plugin, so thank you.

    I have a question with regards to the information that is being picked up by search engines when displaying the index / main page in search engine results.

    For reference, my website is here.

    This particular template uses ‘posts’ at the base of the page (actually called ‘teaser posts’) which I am using to give a profile to different areas of the organisation, but not necessarily related to what should be picked up on the index page by search engines BUT I don’t want to necessarily block access to these posts, as I feel that this may be counter-intuitive.

    I’ve set up the singular page meta information under ‘Homepage’ settings, however the search engines are skipping this and picking up the information under the first post box which is there to promote a Cafe opportunity. To get around this for now, I’ve tweaked the text here to include a sentence about the Cultural Centre before promoting the cafe opportunity so it will show up satisfactorily in results.

    I feel that there has to be a better way of doing this, as this box will change throughout the year.

    If not, would a more permanent work-around be by placing a ‘calendar’ plugin on this post, with introductory text about the organisation here (as I’ve done with the current post).

    Just a follow up to this, I can see (when viewing source code on my main page) that Yoast plugin has inserted the custom meta data placed into the code:

    Yet, this is not the text being picked up by search engines, as I mentioned, it’s in the text of the first post.

    Same problem here. Anyone with absolution?
