I am having the same problem and I have been on it (searching for answers on the internet, and all), and I am still no where to resolving the issue. Why is WordPress organization silent about this and want us to depend on trial and error suggestions here and there? I am new to wordpress but my guess is that there is a catch that wordpress is not open about. Otherwise, how come an API key that is supposed to works for Akismet and WordPress Stats has to be acquired from Akismet? And when it works for Akismet (it works for me), it does not work for WordPress Stats? There is nothing wrong is saying that we have to pay for it. Pardon me if I am wrong, but it is frustrating for someone to get stuck on an issue with plugin install. Please WP, let us know if we need to pay for an API key for your WP Stats, and if it is true that we don’t need a sperate key, then give us a link to where to fix the issue. Thx.
