• i have just upgraded the wordpress.com stats plug-in on my site. after the upgrade, it required me to re-enter the API key. i found what i thought was the correct API key & entered that, but it told me that this was owned by another user (another of my email addresses which is not connected to this particular blog) & it does not display any stats.

there is a link that says i can change the API key, but clicking on this only reloads the same page, & there is no option to enter a different API key.

i looked in the readme & it says that i should be able to use the same API key on multiple blogs. but when i try to add this blog to my wordpress.com account i get an error message saying that the owner of the API key is not on the access list for this blog.

it’s totally confusing. i have so many passwords to remember, now i have to remember API keys as well???? i think i will have to look for a simpler plug-in – all i want to be able to do is track the stats on this blog & it shouldn’t be this difficult ??

I got this problems aswell, and somehow your stuff got listed somewhere, and its unchangeable. I hope the make of this plugin realize, he have to look into this.

yep it is really annoying; i have tried deleting the plugin & reinstalling it, but it still comes up with the incorrect API key & the link to change it just reloads the same page. ??

I found this fix to the issue! I didn’t have a clue what I was doing, but I followed the instructions and got my stats back.

    Also found this:

but the first tutorial was easier for me to understand. Hope that helps!

thank you very much! i followed the instructions on the first link & it has all worked perfectly – i was able to enter the correct API key & now all the stats are showing up again.

i thought this was the solution … but this morning i’ve discovered that the stats are not working again ?? i’m getting the message that my wordpress account is not authorised to view the stats of this blog.

so i followed the instructions on the first link, & found 2 entries of the API key in the database. i deleted both, & back in my wordpress install i had to re-enter the API key for akismet & for wordpress stats. it worked fine for akismet, but it is not working for wordpress stats – i’m back to square one – it is saying i need to enter the correct API key, but the link to do this just refreshes the same page.

so, back to the database. this time i just deleted the API key for the wordpress stats. but then my wordpress install only let me re-enter the key for akismet, & for wordpress stats i was in the same situation.

so, back to the database & deleted both instances of the API key, again. tried entering it for the wordpress stats first but it still doesn’t work. i tried to get a new, different API key to use for the stats, but from the akismet site you now have to pay, & from the wordpress site it requires me to set up a new account – i don’t understand why – & after putting in a few usernames that are already taken i am just thoroughly fed up with the whole thing & going to look for a simpler stats plugin. just feel like i have wasted a whole lot of time on this now ??
