• On one of the several blogs I admin, the Flash stats graph is no longer displaying in the stats dashboard. The combobox to switch between different stats accounts is also not displaying. The plugin appears to be working fine in all other respects.

screengrab of the affected blog’s stats dashboard. A right-click on the space where the graph should be shows a ‘movie not loaded’ message.

This is happening for both me and the blog owner, in different geographical locations and browsers.

Form the back end of my personal blog, where I can switch between the stats accounts I have access to, my graph displays fine as does the graph for the affected blog.

The affected blog is at https://www.iambop.com ; it was upgraded by the owner to 2.8.2 which seemed to be when the problem started although I can find no reference to any known issues anywhere. My personal blog is still on 2.8

Deactivating, deleting and re-installing the plugin has made no difference.

    Thanks for any help
    Scott

  • Andy,

Speaking as a developer, no matter how valid your reasons for refactoring the Flash method(s), it will be lost on the average user who just sees a white rectangle where their stats used to be and hears you telling them they have to wade through all their plugins and theme code (hundreds of files in my case) to solve a problem that wasn’t there before they “upgraded”.

Given the popularity of Stats, your audience is hardly limited to geeky professionals such as myself who can follow arcane explanations about the “Unicode BOM”. They include people who know just enough to be dangerous downloading stock templates and plugin files that very likely have at least one page of code with an extra line or two through no fault of their own and no realistic recourse.

For the record, I found the offending file on my client’s site that had an extra line at the end. But not before spending 2+ hours.

jrdub, I am sorry you had this trouble and glad you managed to fix the offending file. I’m already working on bypassing this issue in the next version.

I’m one of those regular Joes who just downloads stock templates and does the upgrades when presented. But I had been relying heavily on WP Stats to give me information on my readership of my website/blog. Since the “upgrade” the chart is either gone or comes and goes. There’s no way I could go in and find a bad file or code unless I hired a programmers and spend more than I make on the site.

I look forward to another “upgrade” or version of Stats that resolves the problem for us all in a simple manner.

I am having a similar issue with stats graph not showing. On my stats page it isn’t even there.

I have uploaded a new version of the plugin that includes the Flash file. This should eliminate all issues with graphs not appearing due to extra characters. Please download and install from here to test it:

Thanks for the update Andy – that works. Incidentally, can you say where this rogue text needs eliminating from: we have a number of sites, some work, some don’t, as the files have been worked on by a few of us!

Is it just the wp-config.php file, or does each file which has ever been edited (and saved with the extra chars) require an update?

    Hey Andy,

Great work! The graph works for both daily, weekly and monthly stats. However, in my dashboard the flash movie still doesn’t work, but I’ll live with that until the next version comes out!

Fixed at our end. Thanks to all!
