[Plugin: WordPress.com Stats] Numbers instead of title, and hits instead of visitors?

As far as I can remember, the stats always showed as hits (called views). But I am having the same problem with the post ID# appearing instead of the post title. It only appears with posts/pages written after I upgraded to 2.5. Another strange thing that I’ve found is that if you refresh the page, the proper titles appear. Any ideas as to what’s going on?

Same here. I upgraded to 2.5.1 today and posts published after the upgrade show up with only the ID# in stats. Refreshing the page did cause the proper titles to appear once, but subsequent refreshes brought back the ID#s. Now refreshing does not correct the problem. I also upgraded to Stats 1.2.1 today.

Any ideas?

I also just discovered that it is not just the posts written after I upgraded to 2.5 (I am currently using 2.5.1 but the problem started in 2.5). I have a post written all the way back in September 07 that appears as the ID# only.

Here’s a screenshot that I took of the problem.

You’ll see that 2 posts/pages show up as ID#s. Interesting enough, the one that appears as “Mor” is in reality titled “New WoW Name Generator”. So that’s a whole other can of worms.

I have a client that is experiencing this as well.

Does anyone have any thoughts as to what could be causing this? It would be appreciated.

Strangely enough, lately it’s been working fine in the browser I usually use but when I use another browser that I rarely touch, I get the same problem again.

Edit: I stand corrected; it did it again. Is it possibly a caching issue?

As I noted in another thread, it appears to be that the WP.com servers store the very first post title that is saved (or auto-saved) even if not published. When you edit your post, your installation sends the new title information to wp.com. However, it appears that some of their servers do not get the information. When you refresh your stats, a fair amount of the time the stats page is pulling from old title data.

I’m still using 2.3.?, but from the comments above, and since I have this problem with only a few posts, I think what is happening is that if you originally save the post without something in the Title area, it gets stuck with that number – I’ve realize now that I’ve done this a few times as I’ve written a draft post, and saved it so as to not lose what I’ve written, but I hadn’t filled in the title yet….. I hope that helps.

There doesn’t seem to be a fix yet unfortunately. The best way to avoid the problem is to think out your title carefully before any drafts (auto or otherwise) gets saved. I know it’s not a solution but it’s the best thing we have right now.

Often I cannot write a title until the post is complete. I have been keeping one “Draft” post open at all times with a template. I write and post photos to the draft. Only once my post is crafted and I have a final title do I start a new post in a new window, copy and paste the title first (this is important to do first because of autosave), then paste the body html of the post, select category, etc.

It’s not ideal, but it has been keeping my titles readable until this bug is fixed. The thing is, I want to add more writers and photographers, and I can’t expect everyone to follow this routine.
