As of a few days ago our site stats have EXPLODED!

    https://www.autostraddle.com

We typically average around 38K views a day — we’ve averaged 38K views a day now for the last five weeks.

then suddenly on February 14th our stats started jumping. 60,129 on Feb 14th, 80,560 on Feb 15th, 80,774 on Feb 16th. prior to this week, our highest day ever was in the 55k neighborhood and it was on a day last february when a post of ours went viral.

It seems like we’re getting a lot more traffic via search referral but there are no other inbound links listed as directing a significant amount of traffic to us.

Here’s the thing: when I check awstats (via our web hosting service), they don’t track views but the unique visitors count isn’t any higher than normal. google analytics isn’t showing anything abnormal either.

however google insights for search does show a spike in people searching for our website name since the 14th.

we’ve had a problem this week with google chrome — our site hasn’t been loading on google chrome and we’re trying to fix it w/hostgator but haven’t been able to target the problem. i don’t know if that’s related or not.

What could be going on to account for this massive jump?

I’ve got the opposite problem: a sudden drop in what had been an otherwise very consistent traffic pattern.

Coincidentally, my sudden drop in traffic happened on Feb. 14th, the same day your site received its spike.

My AWstats page doesn’t corroborate WP.com Stats’ traffic figures either.

At present, WP.com Stats continues to report virtually no traffic on the blog in which it’s installed while AWstats reports the opposite.
