Ok, I did a lot of searching, and tried at least 6 other plugins. THIS plugin is the best. It nearly does everything, except for two that I can think of.

First – it would be awesome to have a configurable avatar size (input single square dimension of 70, and it would give you a 70×70)

Second – If it could also place a bio box at the top of the author archive (when selecting an author and getting a list of all author posts).

The last item that is missing is the user email, which has been requested in another post.

    Awesome plugin!

    Also – very important

Need a way to disable for single custom post types. It currently displays on single custom post types.

Added all this via GitHub, except the email.

Hi … first of all thanks for trying out the plugin and for getting in touch. I’ve been wrapped up in my day job for a while so I haven’t had the chance to catch up with the forums here.

But … support for the configurable avatar size and the position of the Biography Box is now part of WP Biographia v2.0 which, as of this morning, is now in beta and available for download from GitHub at https://github.com/vicchi/wp-biographia/tags. See https://www.vicchi.org/2011/11/01/wp-biographia-v2-0-goes-into-beta/ for more background and information.

This is down to Travis Smith contributing a whole slew of new features in GitHub and sending me a pull request.

If you don’t want to manually install the beta version onto your WordPress install, once beta testing is done and dusted I’ll be updating the WordPress plugin repository so you can update automatically via the dashboard.

User email support is now on the list of features for the next version, which I hope to get out into the real world in a week or so, assuming the day job let me!

Once again, thanks for using the plugin and thanks for getting in touch.

    Best

Travis and I are friends and he is an awesome coder (as I assume you know by now).
I will look for the updated version when it becomes available, and give the beta a test.

    Again, nice plugin functionality…

@bruce … I most certainly do know this by now. I’ve been really amazed by the response to the plugin and Travis’ help and support have made it all worthwhile. Thanks for the comments and the feedback; I really appreciate it.

Quick update; I’ve added in support for the post author’s email address and this will now be in v2.0.0; it’s updated on GitHub and will be included when I push the final version to the WordPress SVN repository.

That is a great feature addition, and I know others that have been looking for it.

WP Biographia v2.0 is now live in the WordPress repository. But I’d recommend caution; there’s been a report of some side effects with the new version (see here for details.

I’d love to get any feedback from people who do upgrade and whether there’s any other issues I don’t know about, and more importantly, need to resolve.

Hi, great plugin, much nicer than others I’ve tried. Just 2 problems:

Changing 100 image size to 70 and click the save changes button but it reverts to displaying 100 and the image placeholder in the bio’s remain large too.

Second, having trouble getting the profile picture to actually display. I had User Photo plugin (https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/user-photo/) installed and it gave me the function to add a pic to my user profile which displays on the profile. But it did not show up in the Biographia bio on the posts. Now I deactivated that plugin but now I have no place to add a photo on my user profile.

    Thanks

    Hi Gav,

You’re right about the image size; this is a bug, both in persisting the custom image size and in sizing the containing div around the image. I’ve just fixed both these bugs this morning and they’ll be in the next version of the plugin, v2.2, which should be released in about a week’s time.

The profile picture problem is something else. The plugin uses the standard WordPress avatar system to display author profile pictures. Out of the box, this means that you need to a) have a Gravatar defined and b) have avatar display enabled (this is done from Settings -> Discussion from the Dashboard, not from the User Profile) … see Question 4 in the FAQ.

You can override this with another source of the author image via another plugin if that plugin’s author overrides the default WordPress get_avatar pluggable API call … see Question 5 in the FAQ. From looking at the User Photo plugin’s code, this does seem to be supported but it needs to be configured from that plugin’s admin options by ensuring that the Override Avatar With User Photo option is checked.

As mentioned in the FAQ, I’ve tested WP Biographia with the Simple Local Avatar plugin which plugs/overrides get_avatar and this works. I haven’t tested this, apart from the most cursory of glances, with the User Photo plugin, so if you go down this route, please let me know if you come across any compatibility problems.
