We could all donate a small amount of money and get a freelance prgrammer to fix all the bugs in it………There are freelance programing sites where you can send in your requests and have them fixed or written by someone who bid on the work………as the last post by Themestown for support was 6 months ago it would seem the best way forward would be to contract with a programmer that could fix many of the problems within a few weeks.

    Anyone up for this suggestion?

    What is the bugs?

I using the plugin too. So far is fine.

scoc, I don’t believe my last post was 6 months ago. In fact I know that is not the case if you’re talking about posts on the support website. If you are talking about posts here, this is not where I handle support for the plugin. I will confess that it is extremely distressing given the difficulty I have personally had in keeping up with the plugin due to lack of user support to read that users would be willing to donate to a freelancer but not to the individual who took the time to develop the product. Perhaps I am being overly sensitive in light of my own personal financial struggles but it does seem somehow odd and a bit hurtful to the ego to read your suggestion above. Especially at this time while I have had to take time off from support for the past month entirely due to lack of funds.

You have my sympathies as regards your plight, but I’m not sure how this helps those who use the plugin and experience problems with it.

Having tried to use your plugin, it promises well but remains buggy and parts very impractical to use.

Using what is tantamount to emotional blackmail to people being honest with you about the performance of the plugin, is not very nice.

Most of the folks who have installed the plugin are in similar financial straits and are toiling to use your script with 3rd party users.

These users’ only concern is that the scripts works. The plugin does not work in several critical areas and you should warn people about this. It is not personal, since they dont know you – it’s a practical issue.

Also you have left a message on your web site saying that you will be unavailable indefinitely – so what do you expect from users? Your behavior is simply unfair.

As a result I have opted to uninstall the WP Business Directory Manager because it is very buggy to use and would not recommend the plugin to others.

Neither is offering to pay a freelancer to upgrade a plugin that is being offered freely by the plugin’s developer. Come on people – try working with plugin developer’s and not against them! Nine times out of 10, the only time they hear from you is when you have a problem that you want fixed yesterday.

    Come on Esmi

May I recommend that you get your facts sorted before making such un-informed assertions.

The author cannot be contacted, do check:

    https://themestown.com/members/fantasmal/activity/groups/

Thus how can we work with the author?? I’d love to. Moreover, how do you also know that the author’s are not complimented? I see it all the time.

Furthermore, what evidence do you have that users have NOT tried to work with the scripts author?

Can I suggest you look at the author’s forum, there are a lot of compliments!

If you check you will find that the site has a large message saying that the plugin’s author will be un-available indefinitely.

So how would you suggest we work WITH the plugins author, if they are beyond contact?

scoc makes a perfectly reasonable suggestion. I have tried to configure the plugin for six months testing and reporting acidiously…..

Please let us know your logic under these circs and how we might work with someone who is out of contact?

Really? https://www.ads-software.com/support/profile/themestown works fine for me.

Moreover, how do you also know that the author’s are not complimented?

I work alongside a plugin developer.

Please let us know your logic under these circs

The developer posted in this thread. That was the point when you could have begun a reasonable, and possibly even productive, dialogue instead of making unnecessary comments about emotional blackmail. Personal comments and/or insults are not viewed kindly on this forum as they are often detrimental to the community.

    I suggest you review https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Forum_Welcome

I am not sure how your threats and bullying me is going to fix that?

Please check again – the author insists that support is primarily given on his web site:

    https://themestown.com/

You will note on this web site a big red notice which reads:

“Announcement: Please note that I will be unavailable indefinitely while attending to some personal matters. A. Lewis”

Again, how do you propose we should work with the plugins author if he is beyond contact?? How would you suggest I engage in dialogue on this basis?

I simply agreed with the first poster. Is this not allowed?

Diva, speaking of reasonable dialogue, I would reiterate, I am not sure how your threats and bullying of me is going to fix that?

    Please advise?

I withdraw the “emotional blackmail” comment un-equivocably in the light of the personal issues the author is clearly experiencing.

I worked with him and the plugin for 6 months.

Please dont ban me from the forum, I was simply making an honest practical comment based on his plea above?

    Someone please answer my question.
    What is the bugs?

    I want patch it alone.

    No need developers or freelancers.

woolfcom, I have no interest in emotionally blackmailing anyone. I did not think it would be appropriate to get into detail about my personal circumstances and I still don’t. Suffice to say I cannot and will not put your concerns above my life. As I’ve stated there are other options for business directory plugins. In responding to the OP my hope was that I could remind users of my plugin or any other for that matter that there are human beings behind these products not machines and sometimes life interferes with our best intentions. I was not seeking sympathy but simply endeavoring to get across the need to respect that I am not able to update the plugin at this time due to pressing financial and other personal issues.

Having read your post I think you are quite right about what you’ve implied. Perhaps the development of such products ought to be left to established businesses or at least to persons who can afford to upkeep them.

This is not my hope – I rely and admire the innovation and graft that independent engineers like you bring to the table. The fight against corporatism and monopolistic behavior, is an important one to me personally.

The phrase I used was unfortunate and again withdrawn – please note my flattering comments during the period I was testing the script, about its capabillities.

It would seem entirely counter-productive to all concerned if all comments were unswervingly flattering irrespective of the facts.

Moreover, the most flattering light for any script is that it is usable, capable and works effectively.

End users dont exmaine to in’s and outs and travails of independent minded Content Managers like us and Software Engineers like you.

Ironically to fight against coporatism, one has to adopt their efficient tendencies.

Anywho, the plugin is not far off being great and I sincerely hope you are able get back to it ASAP

Man, this plugin is just AWESOME (it really is), but it lacks a few things like the ability to create multiple directories (e.g. recipes directory, business directory, address book, …) and also for some reason viewing the ‘single’ and ‘category’ page gives a 404 when the WP Recipe Press plugin is active as well.
