• The update totally wacked out my site. I have a very simple set up for my site and the update still crewed it up. In my case, pages simple don’t show even though they are there in the admin view. I tried to register to use the support forums but their site never emails the password so it is a no go there. Very frustrating.

    Hi Justin,

Thanks for continuing to investigate. If you need anything, please let me know. I am continuing to search on my side.

Thanks for the compliments on the site!

    Jason

I did spot one thing on my side guys… by default the wp e-commerce files are set to 644 permissions in the home dir of the hosting server. I tried changing them to 0755 but NO luck. But thought it was worth a mention.

    Hi Justin
You’re absolutely right. I apologize, I am very frustrated.
Anyway I think impresentable provide an update on these features if you really are not 100% tested.
I bought the GOLD option at the time and after numerous problems I got everything working. I’m not a programmer. I’m a photographer. Should inform users and purchasers of such services or plugin if you need to have extensive knowledge in information management that relates …
I apologize again for mi last post and my horrible english…

    Hey Justin,

I am checking in to see if any progress has been made on a solution. I need to find a solution soon as I have a deadline looming.

Is there anything you need from me to help?

    Thanks.

Justin, I have a very similar problem, I am still fairly new to WP but not html design. I had a few site I was experimenting with and all were working fine until I had to renew my SSL and change my primary domain. I have the unlimited godaddy hosting plan and since the change I get errors as soon as I activate the wp e-commerce plugin! I have even tried installing a totally new WP (and database) with no theme and as soon as I activate the WP e-commerce plugin, other plugins seem okay except for PHPurchase which give the same error. Someone mentioned permission settings? What should they be set at to?
I apologize for this but I have tried starting a new post but have received no replys and your issue is so close to mine!
If you would care to reply off group please do so at design @ siskenimagery dot com
    Thank You very much,
    Ken

    BTW, here is the error:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘=’, expecting ‘)’ in /home/content/w/a/g/wagonmaster54/html/!stitchin/wp-content/plugins/wp-e-commerce/wpsc-includes/category.functions.php on line 238

@ksteele – Thanks for the heads up on permissions, continuing to take a look with the info you emailed me.

@martin – Apology accepted ?? I totally understand your frustration, but at the same time, I understand both sides of the issue. As a business owner, having very limited resources to support a plugin with over 1 million downloads is a constant struggle. As a developer, it would be frustrating to be fighting with a plugin I was unsure would meet my needs or have a difficult time configuring. So a little empathy goes a long way. I’m a certified consultant and one of the core devs on the project, but not an Instinct employee – if there are specific issues you are facing, feel free to email me and I’d be happy to help.

@jstearn – I’ve forwarded your permalinks directly to the support staff and developers. Definitely confirmed the issue, though having a VERY hard time actually replicating it anywhere else, so it’s a very odd isolated issue. I, unfortunately, don’t have the time to devote to debugging it thoroughly, though I’m hoping one of the developers can help you. I’ll try to keep you in the loop with the process.

    @siskenimagery – Just emailed you ??

    Hi Justin,

Thanks for your interest, for your patience.

I will wait. Few days, hoping that Instinct provide us a definitive solution. Meanwhile I have to investigate other options dosponibles as e-commerce plugin concern.

    Thank you again.

    Hi Justin,

Any word on this? I assume you passed everything over to the developers, but thought they might have a couple questions. I haven’t heard anything from them though.

I need to know if a resolution will be forthcoming or if I should find another solution.

    Thanks,

    Jason

    Hi jstearn,

I know the developers are aware of this issue and will be addressing it as soon as possible. If they’re not able to get to it before 3.8.1 or supply a patch for you in a manner that is timely enough for you, I’d recommend reverting to 3.7.8 while the issue is resolved. I’ll be sure to stay in touch as I hear more.

    Hi Justin,

I find it very odd that you are the only person that responds, but you are not actually part of the company. I don’t hear anything back from the actual people at the company. Nor do I have the sense that they are actually working on this issue. There seems to be consistency about not producing a good product or supporting.

The issue is more fundamental than just reverting, but if I am going to go to the effort of reverting and doing that entails, then I might as well just install another plugin. The only differences I see is that there are few complaints with other plugins and more responsive support.

I appreciate your responses, but it really should be coming from the WP E-Commerce folks themselves and they should be really trying to solve the issue.

    Thanks,

    Jason

How do I revert back to 3.7.8 till my guy gets back from vacation

    Hi help me joe n,

Reverting did not solve my problem.

    1. Delete the existing version of the plugin (no worries, deleting the plugin doesn’t delete the actually database tables, so you don’t loose anything. Though I would back up first.)

    2. Visit https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/wp-e-commerce/ and in the blue area that says FYI to the right select Other Versions. Choose the previous version and download it.

    3. Go to WP and choose upload new plugin and install it.

Good luck. Hope it works for you!

    Jason

@ jstearn & joe: If after reverting the plugin the site didn’t “just” work again, you need to try replacing ALL of the files associated with your site via FTP… PROVIDING you have a copy of these files from before the update. Make sure to do a full backup before getting started JIC. If replacing the site files doesn’t work… you will be VERY sad if you don’t have a backup of the SQL database tables. Because replacing those tables is about the only chance you have of making it right again (unless of course WP=Commerce peeps fix the file structure and bugs that created this error to begin with) The only other thing I can think of that may help is asking your website hosting company if they have your site backed up somehow and letting them replace the files. Good Luck, and in the future ALWAYS create a full backup before updating even the simplest of files and data… its just easier when things go south. There are some wp plugins available to help you do this if you do a search you will have plenty to choose from. Also, you can PM me if you need dedicated “paid” help or its just a simple question thats ok too. HJope this helps, “K”

I had a backup fortunately. I just starting going in and making manual edits to the database directly to solve my problems. Not optimal (and time consuming) but I have deadlines with my clients.

I have to say, I think this will be the last time I use WP E-Commerce. There are some good things about it, but overall the other e-commerce plugins out there seem to be less buggy and when you do have a problem their support is more responsive.

Thanks again guys and good luck!

    Jason

YIKES! Manual edits – sorry to hear that… definitely NO FUN! Nice that you had a backup though… I fear there will be many without! And we both know what that means…
