• Please include the option to disable links to and from footnotes in the next update if you have a chance. I removed the hyperlink in the code via editing by FTP to disable the links, and I think my blog looks better without them. Here is a post using this plug-in without the links:

I’d also like to add that this is one of my favorite plug-ins. It is very easy to write with, and doesn’t feel like you are dealing with codes. The links are a problem with paginating though. When linked footnotes are clicked users are always brought back to the index page, which makes the links inaccurate. Other than this error, it is also awkward how the citation of the footnote jumps to the very top of the page when the link is clicked. It would too much to ask for a highlighted citation that is toward the center of the page instead when links are clicked. So, I think it is best to not use the links.

When paginating the citations are listed briefly at the bottom of each page, rather than at the end of the article, so there is not much use for links when we can just as easy scroll down briefly to the page bottom. That is the natural process when reading footnotes, to just turn to the citation, instead of clicking a link. Even the footnotes in Wikipedia go to external sources, rather than a citation at the bottom of the page.

And I think that pagination is important to bloggers, because it gives us a way to increase the displaying of advertisements. Bloggers will want to keep the post-pages short so they can display as many ads as possible, and don’t need to jump to the bottom of pages through links. Furthermore SEO is enhanced with more pages and page-links created through pagination.

Overall, I think posts just look better without the links. You did a good job with this plug-in as far CSS style designing. I’m just a afraid that when the next update comes out, I’ll have to remove the links all over again. So, if you could make a new “no links” option it would be a big improvement.

    Hi,

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have added this post as a ticket in the WP-Plugins Trac system (https://plugins.trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/1194).

An option to turn off links certainly sounds like a good idea and I’ll do my best to include it in the next release.

If you have any other suggestions or bug reports, please add them to Trac rather than using the forums.

    Cheers,
    Simon
