[Plugin: WP LaTeX] WP-Latex: Behaviour difference between shortcode and $latex…$

I have begun experimenting with WP-Latex and the two forms $latex … $ and [latex] ... [/latex] seem to have slightly different behaviour. If the LaTex code is on a line by itself with black lines above and below, the $latex … $ form renders with a line break after the LaTeX image, but the shortcode [latex] form has the next line of text appear below the image with no line break. I am using the Thesis theme.
