• Hello,

The plugin seems to work flawlessly, but due to increased number of “smart” spam comments, I thought it may be helpful (for some time, at least) to restrict comments to OpenID only.

Simply removing name and URL boxes from comment form didn’t work, since spammers obviously use direct requests, not the website form. And going deep into WP code is kinda hard for me now.

I would highly appreciate any hints on how to do that.

  • so this didn’t make it into the v3.0 release we did yesterday. We do have the “auto-allow OpenID comments” option, but I have mixed feelings even on that. Large sites like ma.gnolia.com and others are discovering that spammers indeed are learning how to use OpenID, so it is not really an effective anti-spam mechanism. The plugin should work fine with other plugins like re-captcha, if you want to try that route. Otherwise, what we (the OpenID community) really need is an OpenID trust or reputation system. The plugin is ready to accommodate such a system if/when one becomes available, but as yet nothing like that exists.
