    Hi,
First, I like the simplicity and functionality of the plugin design. Nice admin layout and instructions. I hope to use the plugin extensively.
Second, I’m fairly new to WP and newer to WPPA+. Most I understand, but I have a few questions on things I may not yet understand:

    1) I used the Insertion code to add a single photo to a page. But, the description (or title when you hover over it) is not attached to the photo. Website link below.
Related to this, I would want any inserted WPPPA+ photos/captions to match the font style/border of the photos I inserted through the Media Library. I already understand how to change to size to make it similar to my other photo sizes

1A) My album description doesn’t show up on my gallery page, but I’m not overly concerned about having one. Just wondering why not?

    2) Is there any way to edit (rotate/crop/etc) a photo in the Manage Photos section?

    3) I want a black background (like you have on your webpage (Custom page template)), but I don’t clearly understand how to make this 1 change. Can I do this simply through the custom field >name >field on the edit page? And, if so, what is the exact name and field? If not, how?

    4) If I add the Filmstrip Navigator, will it always be above the Photo Descriptions? Seems like the other way would look better. Main photo > Description > Filmstrip Navigator.

    These are probably future issues:
    – ability to store 1 photo in 2 different albums?
    – add photo from WP Media Library? (I know you said this is under consideration in future upgrades)
-maybe some more options for fade ins/outs

My test gallery page is here:

    Thank you,
    Andrew

    – ooh, 1 more thing. I cannot turn off the music on your Docs & Demo site. If I hit mute/stop and then open a new page, the music starts again. Sorry, please don’t take offense, but it’s a bit annoying.

    Hi,

I’m sorry, I totally forgot about the ‘Import’ function. I have a question related to it.

My Media Library has a total of 151 images in it.
When I use the Import function, it’s showing almost every possible size variant of my images (500+ images).
For example in the folder: WP-Contents/Upload/20011/3 (uploads from this month into the WP Media Library) I see the following choices for importing for 1 image. They’re all the same image – different sizes.

    DSC_0019-1024×680.jpg DSC_0019-150×150.jpg DSC_0019-250×166.jpg
    DSC_0019-300×199.jpg DSC_0019-640×480.jpg DSC_0019-940×1000.jpg DSC_0019.jpg

It wants me to choose importing from 7 different sizes of the same photo. I certainly never uploaded or created 7 different files in the WP ML.

    1) I don’t understand why
    2) Is this a Media Library issue or a WPPA issue?
    3) Best suggestion? Upload the largest size I may need?

    Thanks
    Andrew

Import the largest photo there is. This will give you the best results.
Note that you can set the Resize on upload checkbox if you want wppa+ to downsize to your wppa+ local maximum size.
Probably in your example DSC_0019.jpg is the original photo that has not been resized before. Use that!

I am almost there, and I hope this is a reasonable question:
I converted my WP Gallery Page to single column (no sidebar – looks much better).
I set the the Column Width and Image Size to 800 pixels (480 Height) – this seems to match the page template because the WPPA Navigation bars are the same length as the ‘bar line’ under the Page Title which is set in the WP Weaver admin.
I did not check the ‘Resize on Upload’ box because the images I’m using are 1600×1200 (I know a little big, but not huge).

But, shouldn’t the image be the same width as the Navigation Bar – 800 pixels? The images are smaller. It’s a minor discrepancy and I could live with it. But, I’m not sure why and what I am missing?

And, are 1600x images ok, or do you feel/think I should resize to 1024 or 1200?

    As always, many thanks
    Andrew

Indeed, you are almost there! My compliments.

There is still one thing you ought to know:

The width and height you specified in the first chapter of the settings panel (800 x 480 in your case) are the maxima that are used in the full-size/slideshow display.

As the aspect ratio is a ‘holy’ quantity in wppa+ and your picture is a little less landscape than the 800 / 480 ratio, the height is now the limitation. The picture is displayed at 722 x 480, corresponding to the original ratio of the photo.

Set the height to 532, and this picture will exactly fill the width of the nav-bars. If you set the height larger, the width will stay the same, you will have space obove and/or under the image, depending of the vertical alignment you specified for full images.

Opajaap, you’ve created a great plug-in. After spending hours of frustration with NextGen, I uploaded yours instead and love the cleanness of it. Also, your responsiveness and helpfulness above is great.

I’m having trouble with not being able to rotate the pics. I’ve followed your instructions above and rotated them locally. However, whenever I go to upload them, they are turned horizontally.

Is there something I am doing wrong? Or perhaps a setting I need to adjust? I saw the user above had figured this out.

    Plugin Author Jacob N. Breetvelt

    (@opajaap)

It is obvious that your local rotation failed.

Since you are the second this week asking me, i will add the rotate function to the wishlist. Follow the changelog, it will be clearly announced when it is implemented.

I found a work-around to make it happen. Initially, I had the photos stored in a folder on my desktop and I was uploading them from there. They were automatically inserted horizontally despite my efforts to rotate them.
However, when I moved them into IPhoto first, they could be uploaded vertically from there.

    Hi,
I’m 98% there:) Mostly, I just need to pick and choose photos. Just a few minor things and I’ll be ok (for a while I hope:)

    1) Is there a ‘magic way’ to center the photo sidebar widget without also moving the image down to the right. My padding (top/left) is currently set at 20 which is almost centered. It seems I could do it by enlarging the image, but I much prefer the smaller image size. I want the WPPA Slideshow to have more prominence in the sidebar area. Honestly, I could live with it as it is. Maybe it’s a ‘wish list’ item.

    2) On my Gallery Page, some of my photos are still a bit smaller than the full frame size, even though when I look at the image size I uploaded it’s larger than 800×532
    Example: Ox-cart ride = 1400x1050x24b 612kb
If I upload the full-size (2048×1536 750kb)it’s the same size.
Again, I can live with it for a few images. Mostly, I’m curious as to ‘why’ to help me understand the relationships between photo size, pixels, aspect ratio etc. This photo (and the other ‘smaller ones’ in the gallery did come from a different camera) which I think is the reason, but I don’t understand the reason.
Are there any good articles/resources on this you know about?

    2) My big ‘wish list’ item is a stylish container/background (maybe with image/container border options) for the slideshow. If this could be put into the Settings I’m sure many of us would love it – for those of us who are too uncertain about writing and inserting code properly. A future wish list item, please.

    3) Donation. I don’t see a PayPal donation (like many other plugin authors) on your website. I’d be happy to send you a few $ for a great plugin and great service.

Ok, thanks again and I’m almost there:)

    1) Which widget are we talking about?

2a)Did you upload with the Resize on upload box checked while the height was still 480? Try setting the fullsize width and height at 800, upload a photo and see whats happening with the width.

2b) The problem is that everybody has different aspect ratios, some have lanscape only, some have mixed portrait/landscape etc. So a background image i will not be able to supply. But this topic is ‘constant on my mind’.

    3) There is a link here.
There are two links on the Photo Albums -> Help & Info page (almost at the bottom), one in euros and one in dollars.
I will add one on my Docs & demo site.

thank you for making such a great plug in. I am using a widget to display a photo. I would like the photos rotated every time the page is refreshed. This way the visitor sees a different photo on every page they access. Is there a way to do this? If not, can one be added?

    Thanks again, Jeff

For more information, I am using the photo of the day widget with one photo. I would like to add more photos, if there is a way to display a new photo only when a page is loaded. Thanks again for the wonderful plugin. Jeff.

    1) The Sidebar widget, specifically. It has settings for Photo Widget Width: pixels and padding top/left. If I increase the pixel size I can center it (keeping the padding=5), but the image is too big.
I want to keep the same image size, but center it in the sidebar. If I increase the padding to center it, the image also moves down by the same amount, away from the Widget Title (Award Winner). It’s currently set at 20 pixels. Like I said, I can live with it, but it’d be nice to adjust horizontally/vertically separately, unless I’m missing a way to do it now.

    2) I think I’m seeing the how important the issue of aspect ratio is.

I can set the height to 600 and the ‘smaller’ images I mentioned then horizontally fill the full frame. However, this, of course, makes everything vertically bigger so vertical images aren’t fully visible and the caption and lower navigation bar are no longer visible on the screen (14″ screen).
I think I have to decide on a full/gallery size that I’ll be comfortable with, has a good aspect ratio, looks good and is functional for both horiz/vert images.
    This is correct, right?

    Thanks
    Andrew

    @ Andrewjmarino:

    1) I will split top and left padding in a later rev.

    2) This is the reason the height setting has been added a few revs ago.
A fair good way is: a) set the width equal to the column width; b) set the height exactly at the size that corresponds with your landscape photos layout; c) set Resize on upload on.

This will produce a rectangular space that is the same size regardless of the photosizes, with the width being fully filled when landscape, and the height fully filled always.

Before this there was only one full-size setting that resulted in a square area with gaps above and/or below the landscape photos and gaps besides the portraits.

One should maybe only make landscape pictures, or, from a programmers point of view even better only square photos, that would make life easy!

I will add the option: change every pageview in the near future.

    Plugin Author Jacob N. Breetvelt

    (@opajaap)

If you do a hotfix re-install as described here you will have:

    1. Change every pageview in the photo of the day widget.

    2. Separate settings for top and left padding in the potd widget.

    3. Rotate left and rotate right buttons for every photo on the album admin page.
