• Resolved The Art Monkey

    (@the-art-monkey)

Just upgraded to 4.6.6 tonight and immediately noticed all my preview thumbnails in every post were now cut off.

To preview various images I had used the code similar to the below in all my posts to link people directly to an album via a WPPA thumbnail.

    %%wppa%% %%photo=1503%% %%size=150%%%%align=center%%

I did nothing but the 4.6.6 upgrade (no posts were edited in any way) and now all the thumbnail images show at correct width but are limited to something like 30-31 pixels in height. I tried my site in Firefox (latest) and Chrome (latest) same result. I also noticed removing the align or width parameter didn’t change the fact the image was always cut off to 30 odd pixels.

Maybe I’m doing something wrong but I LOVE that preview image and want it back! HA.

Thanks for any help in advance!

Do not use auto in non-responsive themes.

    Hi opajaap

I have a fully responsive theme – Weaver II Pro. This is why I want your excellent plug-in to work with it in IE8:-)

    Gillian

I use Weaver II also but the layout of my site doesn’t really require responsiveness.
I know that there are people out there who don’t maximize the browser and as such it should be obvious why they can’t see the whole width of the page.
Unfortunately there’s only so much that can be done to cater for out of date OSs & browsers. It’s very frustrating but as I mentioned in another post: “Unfortunately, from my experience, the vast majority of Internet users are puzzled by the word ‘browser’ and think it’s called Google!”
To get them to ‘upgrade’ would be a step too far.
The problem is that they blame the website/author rather than question the technology they’re using. What can you do?

    Gillian
I’ve just tested my site using ‘auto’ in I-A1 and it does the same as yours – big gap at bottom of some photos.

A thing I just noticed is an issue on non-slideshow photos.
    Firstly alignment and/or padding.
    An image display such as:
    %%wppa%% %%photo=11572%% %%size=350%% %%align=right%%
doesn’t align correctly to the right.
If I change alignment to the left the photo has a large amount of padding on its right side.
I’ve played with I-A1, I-B1 and I-B2 it has no effect.
My theme width in Weaver II is set as 940 pixels and I’ve lowered I-A1, I-B1 and I-B2 down as far as 480 without effect.

Thanks for the doing the test davidallen23 ?? My earlier reference to making the browser smaller was related to me doing a quick check to see if you were using “auto” width – I don’t actually use it like that.

I know that IE8, and indeed Windows XP, are now outdated, but that doesn’t mean that everyone has the ability (financial or otherwise) to upgrade to a Win 7 machine. According to this site, during June the percentage of IE8 users dropped to just under 14% (and that percentage will no doubt continue to decline each month). However, those for whom XP machines (limited to IE8) still meet their needs will continue using them for quite some time to come. Those same people, as you point out, don’t understand that IE isn’t the only way to Google!

Enough philosophising ?? As a temporary fix I have re-sized my pictures to have a height of 600px. This gets rid of the gap below those pictures whose height was previously less than 600px. The downside (isn’t there always one?) is that in IE8 the far right of the picture gets chopped off (the width of my re-sized pictures is 906px and I have now set I-B1 to 940 which is my theme width). Naturally, all is fine, and responsive, in Firefox, Chrome, Opera, and Safari (both iPad and desktop versions).

As you both will understand, i did a lot of work to get the auto feature finally working as intented, for the use of responsive themes. I had in mind the idea that – let us say – people do not run ie7 on the smartphone or tablet…
However, although not my favorite topic, i will go into the layout issue for version 4 browsers (ie7,8) again.
Do not expect miracles, and do not expect them today, but i will do my best.

    Hi opajaap

Nothing I have written in his thread should be taken as a criticism of you. Your support for your plug-in, and your speed of response to issues raised, is outstanding. I, for one, really appreciate your efforts to get responsiveness working in IE7/8 and I’m sure that with your skill you’ll get there in the end :-).

    Hi opajaap
I fully endorse all that Gillian says in her last post. WPPA is an excellent plugin and I am very impressed with all the work you’ve put into it. Your speed of response is second to none and I recommend WPPA to anyone who wants the best photo album plugin available.
I have now solved all the issues I had for both old and new browsers and am very pleased with the results.
Thank you for all of your assistance and patience.

Thanx for your donation i received today.

Ok a little miracle then today:

I have been playing a bit around and think i found an important thing.
Both horizontal and vertical alignment – also ‘fit’ – seem to work now in ie7,8. It will be released together with a few other improvements early next week.

You can have a look here: https://beta.opajaap.nl/empty-page/

Table I-A1 is set to auto. Align H: center, V: fit, maxsize 640*480

I just cant stand when it doesnt work as i want, you see…

That’s great news, opajaap ?? Thank you for continuing to pursue a resolution to this, I understand that you are a perfectionist.

    Fixed 4.6.10

    Indeed, it is fixed ??

Thank you so much for all your efforts – as I said before, your support for your plug-in is outstanding ??

Brilliant work! Everything now works. Lightbox now works perfectly in old browsers – resizes to fit available space.
Great stuff opajaap and thank you for your ceaseless efforts.
