• Yes, I read the FAQ. I still see tons of spam comments getting submitted. Comments need to get approved before they are posted, and they’re marked as spam on my dashboard. I don’t have Akismet or anything like that installed. I can’t duplicate the behaviour by myself, if I enter the wrong or no captcha text I just get an error and the post doesn’t submit (I tried with and without JavaScript.)

So under what circumstances are comments marked as spam by this plugin, and how can spammers get comments submitted unless they’re entering the correct captcha text?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

  • Sorry for the late response. Under Settings > Discussion, do you have this turned off?

An administrator must always approve the comment

I do, although I’ve now noticed that the “must have one approved comment” box was checked, which obviously will have the same effect.

I guess I was confused why these comments were able to get into the system at all. Thinking about it, all I can come up with is that the spammers are directly POSTing the comments without using the HTML on the post’s page? Is this a case where the plugin can’t stop it so tags it as spam instead? If so, it would be nice if the plugin could get deeper into the commenting code and stop any posts without the captcha text.
