• I’ve been experiencing a lot of problems with WP-Spam Free installed.

First, I sometimes get a “blank screen” in the Admin panel.

Second, it seems to conflict with the WP Comment Remix plugin. I cannot reply to comments with WP Comment Remix unless I turn off WP Spam Free.

I just upgraded to 2.6.1 using Instant Upgrade plugin. After the upgrade, I could not get into the WP Admin area – I got an Internal Server 500 Error. When I manually removed WP-Spam Free from my plugins folder, I was able to log in without any problem.

I could not get WP Automatic Upgrade to work with WP-Spam Free. When I deactivated WP-Spam Free, it worked fine.

I really appreciate your help. If I can’t get it to work, what’s another good spam plugin?

Try Cookies for Comments. It uses a similar approach as the spam free plugin does, but in a much more compatible (and non-javascript) way.

@thehealthyskeptic: The blank screen in your admin panel is not related to WP-SPamFree, nor is the 500 error. WP-Automatic Upgrade usually works just fine with WP-SpamFree. Those are not typical errors, and if things are installed correctly, there is no way those should occur. Your original install may have been installed incorrectly though. WP Comment Remix is most likely not compatible with WP-SpamFree. I can test that out.

WebGeek: He asked for suggestions about another good spam plugin right in his original question, and so criticizing me for answering his question is inappropriate for this forum. Please pay attention to the rules in the future.

maybe it’s another choice for us, I like the method that say

“This plugin adds a stylesheet to your blog’s html source code. When a browser loads that stylesheet a cookie is dropped. If that user then leaves a comment the cookie is checked. If it doesn’t exist the comment is marked as spam.”

actually I like wp-spamfree it’s very clever, can block 99.99% of spam
and easy to use, nothing to do after activate this plugin

but only one problem that make me crazy is trackback issue

I used wp-spanfree for many months. first time I used and stop to use it because trackback problem and after that I have to flight with spam so I come back to use this plugin again and I see the same problem

Thanks to everyone for your replies. I’m now using Bad Behavior instead of WP-Spam Free and it’s working great. The other problem I had with WP-SpamFree is that it prevented me from including several URLs in my responses to people’s comments. I often need to do that, since my blog is scientific in nature.

@ nadiamode – WP Spamfree has a trackback setting you could try clicking that to see how it goes
