I’ve only recently installed Super Cache and today I found out that the cache of my site isn’t letting people access MP3 files of audio interviews in my Uploads folder. (These files are played using a plugin called “μAudio”.)

While logged in and viewing a dynamic version of the website the player works properly. When logged out and viewing the cached version of the site the player returns the error “file not found”.

An example of one of these files path is:
    example.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/interview_001.mp3

As a double-check, if I access that example URL while logged out I am directed to my site’s 404 page… so the cached version of the site must not be caching the Uploads folder… should it be? Is there some sort of fiddling I must do to the HTACCESS file? (hoping to heck I don’t need to do that!)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  • WP Super Cache doesn’t cache WordPress 404 pages and doesn’t interfere with requests for uploaded files.

You could try the debug system in the plugin. Upload a file, view it, etc and see if you can figure it out from the warning messages logged.

    Thanks Donncha ??

I believe the issue I encountered might have been a lingering custom field setting from some previous MP3 player as everything seems to be working now (and I’m marking this thread resolved). I’ll put a little tip in your jar when I’m administering sites this coming weekend. Thanks for the work on the plugins! ??
