• Super Cache works great much of the time, but unfortunately something seems to happen to it when you approve comments on my system. It just stops working. It seems that it partly or mostly clears the cache upon comment approval. And then it doesn’t create any more cache files.

The solution seems to be the manually delete the cache every time I approve comments. Then, new cache files are quicly created and al is well. However, this is klugey and if I forget to do it, my server quickly gets overwhelmed because caching has effectively turned itself off.

I would be able to load a lot more “stuff” into my WP installation if I could get Super Cache to work more consistently. Right now it’s delicate because of the way it stops working periodically. If anyone has any ideas, I’d love to hear them.

  • Do you have a huge number of cached files? Check that admin page. Perhaps your system can’t cope with the garbage collection done when comments are approved?

The max cached files I’ve seen have been about 200. But it could be something like that. Typically there are much fewer cached files than that because of the comments issue (comments come in all day long). There are a lot of comments to deal with which might be the bottleneck, esp. since I’m using Paged Threaded Comments.

What would I check on my system to take a look where things might be going wonky? Memory, server load and disk space seem fine except when S/C gets stuck. Thanks so much for your reply.

Curious if anyone else is having this problem? Seems like something I could hack to make work if I understood more about why supercache stops creating cache files but it does seem a bit complicated.
