I have encoding problem with Excel on a mac (OSX 7).

Every time i export CSV and import into wp table reloaded – unmappable characters show up. The only working way so far for me was – opening the excel file in OpenOffice and export as CSV from OpenOffice with ISO 8859-1, than import CSV from wp table reloaded!

But thats to difficult. Any ideas for a smart solution?

Found another way: In Excel you can choose “Save as…” CSV and “windows separated by comma” (in German: Windows-kommagetrennt (.csv).

Thats seems to be the solution.

    Hi,

yes, especially the import of CSV files is not very robust in regard to the character encoding. ?? Unfortunately, I don’t know how to make it better, as I’m not an expert in this topic.

For most people it works, after they open the CSV file in Notepad/Editor and then “Save as” there again, where you can also select the encoding (e.g. UTF-8, which I’ve had the least problems with).

    Best wishes,
    Tobias

Tobias, never mind – some day the problem might be solved by some excel nerds!
    Thanks for your good work!

    Hi,

yes, let’s hope so ?? The problem that I’d like solved with CSV would be a standard definition, like a fixed delimiter, and a fixed escaping character.
Maybe this will somehow be possible in the future ??

    Best wishes,
    Tobias
