[Plugin: wp-typogrify] Possible conflict with Typogrify and short codes

I’m using 2.6 and the new captions to go with images. While the shortcode for the caption appears in the ‘write’ panel, it doesn’t get rendered when I view the post or page. I’ve experimented with settings, and this only applies when Smartypants is enabled on this plugin.

I’ve tried other shortcodes — for GeoMashup, for example — and these, too, fail when Smartypants is enabled.

Is there a way of forcing Smartypants as part of this plugin to escape processing around shortcodes?

Can the same filter which prevents titles being process also be applied to items within square brackets?
