    Hey there,

I am currently trying and failing to disable and delete my version of WPBakery Visual Composer that came packaged with my WP Charming’s Construction WP theme.

The author updated the theme and with it, the visual composer. Allegedly, the new version (4.11.1 ((though I know 4.11.2 is also available))) makes it once again functional on WP 4.5 again. Issue is, when I attempt to update the plugin with the provided updated plugin from the author, I am told:

    Unpacking the package…
    Installing the plugin…
    Destination folder already exists. /srv/users/morfco/apps/morfco/public/wp-content/plugins/js_composer/
    Plugin install failed.

Which, I understand, it still exists, but when I attempt to deactivate it so that I may delete it for the new version, I get this. As you can see, the deactivation does nothing and it remains activated. I have tried the bulk-action deactivation as well, resulting in the same circumstance. I need this plugin removed in order to progress. Any help on the matter would be highly appreciated.

    Brad.

Worth noting, I am not against personally purchasing the theme out of my own wallet, but I still need this plugin removed before I can update it.

I’m marking this as resolved and here’s how I did it (I’ll put it in layman’s terms for people like me who have no bloody clue how to do this).

    Step 1: download filezilla
Step 2: find out your ftp info (host, username, password, and port#—I had to call my hosting service to find this information out)
Step 3: Plug in that information into filezilla
Step 4: Once the server has been connected to, locate the plugins folder (for me, it went: users>’username’>apps>’username’>public>wp-content>plugins) and in that folder I found the plugin
Step 5: And this step is daunting, but trust me: Right click and delete it. There’s going to be a massive amount of text flowing at this point, just wait it out and when it is done, you’ll see something along the lines of “process was successful”

NOTE: Avoid looking at your site at this point because it’s not going to be pretty.

Step 6: Log back into your admin>plugins, and reinstall your new updated plugin. Activate it, and boom! Hope this Helps!

Just curious, when you deleted this and loaded the new plugin, did it keep all your content or did you have to replace it?

The content remains entact. Expect to have to tweak a few things here and there, but ultimately it’s not that big of a headache when all is said and done!
