Hi there, I got this email:

This email was sent from your website “SG Toolbox” by the Wordfence plugin at Monday 12th of February 2024 at 03:33:59 AM
The Wordfence administrative URL for this site is:?xxxxxx
A user with username “hidden” who has administrator access signed in to your WordPress site.
    User IP: 109.176.250.19
    User hostname: 109.176.250.19
    User location: United Kingdom

Well, that was my IP, and the IP is located in Vienna, Austria – not United Kingdom

Is the plugin wrongly detect the IP location, or am I missing something?

    Thanks

Hi @atsiruddin, thanks for your question.

I can see with a current lookup the Austria location on that IP but with tools independent from Wordfence I can also see it has been associated with the UK: https://viewdns.info/iplocation/?ip=109.176.250.19

IP location detection will never be 100% accurate in all cases, but we do update the GeoIP database as often as we can. WHOIS isn’t necessarily the same as GeoIP location databases, as it shows who owns the IP, but not necessarily where it is located.

    Thanks,
    Peter.
