Plugin/Hack to scrape and generate thumbnail from external URL

  • I am looking for a plugin/hack that can scrape & generate thumbnail from an external URL provided by user on the fly. Below are the snapshot and example site with the features.

    Basically, what the feature does are:

    • Click on a button to launch the popup menu
    • User can input article/image/Youtube URL
    • The tool will scrape the URL content and return a thumbnail with image
