Just came here from the User Messages feedback. I bought User Messages 6 months ago on the impression with the free plugin. By all appearances I am stuck with that version despite guarantees of updates until the next major release. Those who unequivocally support marketing of “premium versions” should keep this data point in mind. I was neutral on the practice but this experience has (re)awakened me to the reality that nothing is idealistically pure or can be trusted. I will be exercising quite a bit more caution in promoting solutions especially for clients, since I am trying to be a “maker”, not “taker”, in my new life as an entrepreneur. And I value my credibility.
For the record, I am on the side of segregating the marketing ploys. A strictly commercial channel would have a clearer course of recourse in the event a product does not perform as advertised.

Well, what do you know! Was contacted about an hour later and got the update. My faith is (marginally) restored in the universe. Onward…

To be fair I felt I should say that the problem I encountered was not the fault of the version I had (it turned out to be with something else I bought outside of the WP community).

But customer contact is very important, especially if the onus of staying in contact is put on the customer and then inadequate/no response follows (or the support website is changed so that links previously given no longer work and there is no remedial direction).

I know my OP sounds extreme, but nothing happens in a vacuum.

And that’s all I have to say about that.

Please be aware that we do not support commercial products here – only those that are distributed on www.ads-software.com itself. So any issues with a commercial plugin (even the “pro” version of a free plugin hosted here) need to be sorted out between the vendor and yourself.
