Plugins that create their own MySQL tables

Can someone recommend me some plugins that create their own tables and store data in them

I have a plugin that creates a Flash slideshow
Each instance has its own XML file created in the plugin directory

I want to re-write this code and have the XML data stored in tables

I’m not sure where to start with the tables
I know that you can write to the wp_options table – but in this instance, I need to store more than just settings – each XML file will have settings + unlimited data entries that get fed into the Flash slideshow

Any help would be appreciated
