    Update…

    Now it seems that because of the new 4.9 update, it may not be a plugin conflict.
    After deactivating both the above plugins, I could update files a few times in the Theme editor, but then it ceased updating and began producing this error again:

    Unable to communicate back with site to check for fatal errors, so the PHP change was reverted. You will need to upload your PHP file change by some other means, such as by using SFTP.

    I deactivated ALL the plugins and still could not upodate files in the Theme Editor and consistently get the error message.

    WordPress Developers! Can you discover what is wrong?
