• Hello everyone,

First time being here as I started a WordPress development job.

I am finding it very difficult to understand that WordPress has the wp-cli available, but most of the plugins refuse to be wp-cli compatible.

Is there something down the line in the near future that will make plugins and their installation/activation more wp-cli compatible?

    Thank you

Hey @megaaleksandar – this is something that I agree would be great. As all plugins can be developed by everyone – it’s currently not really possible to enforce a standard like that.

That being said – wp-cli is such a great tool that my hope is we see more and more plugin developers utilising it.

The point of wp-cli is that you can automate the first step of developing a new project with WordPress. It is not that it should be enforced, but it would be really nice to see more documentation on how to prepare a plugin to be wp-cli compatible (for download/install/activate parts). Plugin settings are project based, so that should be done manually, depending on the projects design.

Ah ok sure thing – so you’re meaning in terms of documentation and guidance for plugin developers. That’s definitely something that the Plugins team could consider – but I do know their time is predominantly focused on the review and approval of plugins.

I’ll bring this thread to their attention.

Hi @megaaleksandar, thank you for starting this conversation.+

I agree that having more plugin authors adopt WPCLI would be the way down the road but it is not something we can realistically demand from plugin authors at the moment.

For now, the best path is to raise awareness about it. The WPCLI Commands guide is a good place to start. There is also a WPCLI Learn Course in the making.

    Thanks again!
