Plugins will not upload through FTP

I’m unable to upload new plugins to my wp-content folder using FTP. This has worked in the past and I don’t believe I’ve made any changes to the site that would not allow new plugin uploads, but the problem is definitely specific to the plugin directory, as I am able to upload other files and themes through the FTP. Has anyone encountered this before?
