Plugins won't activate after installing WordPress 4.5.1

Since I’ve updated to the latest version of WordPress none of my plugins will activate. I can deactivate them, but I can’t activate any plugins. I tried to deactivate a active plugin and tried to re-activate it, but it wouldn’t let me.

When I try to install a new plugin it takes me to a page that says

“domain name.com” page isn’t working
“Domain name is currently unable to handle the request
http error 500

Any ideas?

UPDATE: I have since found out that I can activate plugins if I use the dropdown menu on the plugin page that lets me select multiple plugins to activate. The problems seems to be when I hit the button that says activate under each specific plugin.
