Plural strings with variables to UTF-8/Unicode charset

I have this recurring problem:
– when I have strings that can be plural (and then contain a variable like %d), sometimes, the Unicode/UTF-8 (Russian, Japanese, etc.) languages are not translated. It is not systematic. Does anybody know something about that?
