    Hello Blubbry Team!

    First, great plugin!

Now a question: Is it normal when using Category podcasting that the standard category RSS feeds (i.e. those without “/podcast/” suffix in URL) contain podcast tags?

See for example this category RSS feed:
    https://www.rcinet.ca/en/category/podcasts/the-link-podcast/feed/

It has some podcast tags (e.g. <itunes:*…>) and even the podcast generator comment:
    <!-- podcast_generator="Blubrry PowerPress/8.4.4" mode="advanced" category="20148" Blubrry PowerPress Podcasting plugin for WordPress (https://www.blubrry.com/powerpress/) -->

For comparison, here is the true podcast feed:
    https://www.rcinet.ca/en/category/podcasts/the-link-podcast/feed/podcast/

Note that the issue does not exist for categories not registered as podcasts.

The problem is that it confuses Google Podcasts, and makes it want to use the shorter URL (without /podcast/ suffix) even though some podcast tags are missing.

    Regards!

The only difference between the 2 feeds is the /podcast/ one only includes posts with Podcast episodes attached. the /feed/ version has all posts in that category.

    Both work fine.

    Hello Mr. Dell

Thank you for your quick answer!

What I am wondering is why does Powerpress adds podcast tags to the categories’ basic RSS feeds (i.e /feed/) when it does not add podcast tags to the main basic feed (i.e. rcinet.ca/en/feed/)?

Logically, Powerpress should only manage podcast feeds (i.e. /podcast/) and it should not modify basic RSS feeds when the Do Not Enhance Feeds option is set, don’t you think?

Is there a way to prevent Powerpress from modifying the categories’ basic RSS feeds?

It would help a lot with the Google Podcasts issue I mentionned.

    Regards.

There is an option to turn that off. It’s set by default to add podcast tags to all feeds.

In the feeds menu of PowerPress, you can Enhance all feeds, enhance main feed only, or Do not enhance feeds (other than podcast feeds)

    Hello Mr. Dell

    Thank you again!

In the feeds menu of PowerPress, the “Do not enhance feeds (other than podcast feeds)” option is set.

Sadly, it is not working as it does not prevent podcast tags in categories basic feeds.

    Regards.

Not sure what is going on with that. I will check with the dev team,

    Hello Mr. Dell!

There is another problem that may or may not be connected to the issue:
Even non-registered categories have podcast feeds.

I noticed it because this podcast feed has been detected by Google Podcasts:
    rcinet.ca/en/category/theme/politique/feed/podcast/

And the associated category /category/theme/politique/ does not have podcast settings in the Category Podcasting admin page.

Note that for categories that are not registered with Powerpress, their basic RSS feeds are not modified by Powerpress.
Using the same category as the previous example, this feed is not modified:
    rcinet.ca/en/category/theme/politique/feed/

    Regards!
