Last night I bit the bullet and upgraded from Hugh’s last version of SSP to the latest version and got an error message in WordPress that SSP requires PHP 5.3.3 or later. I checked with Bluehost and the site is already running PHP 5.4. Now I’m having to restore a week old version of my podcast to retrieve the old (reliable) plug-in, and of course my entire podcast archive of post type podcast which went away. Now I’ve also lost a week of stats and listeners can’t access transcripts until the restore is complete, and this week’s podcast will be very late, best case scenario. Suggestions?

Hi there, sorry to hear of your troubles upgrading to a more recent version of the plugin. To start with the simplest thing to do to ensure that your site is performing like you want (and it was) would be just to install a previous version of the plugin. Something like 1.14, or whatever version you were running before you upgraded. Previous releases can be downloaded here: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/seriously-simple-podcasting/advanced/

As for the reason the upgrade wasn’t successful, if your site wasn’t running a version of PHP above which it is now compatible you should have just received an error message, it should not have affected your site overall.

Once you get the plugin installed all of your podcast content (and post types) will appear again as they are stored in your site’s DB and will appear when the plugin is again active.

Let us know how it goes and what else we can do to help.

Hi Craig, thanks for your quick response. I was back on the phone with Bluehost early this morning and we tried an upgrade to PHP 5.6 which solved the problem. I’ve since launched another episode and everything seems to be ok.

Before this fix, wordpress still worked fine but the post type ‘podcast’ created by SSP was just gone, not available in the dashboard or through links on the site.

    All’s well now, thanks again.

Ok great to hear. Think you’ll be quite happy being on PHP 5.6….several very large plugins are requiring it as a minimum PHP version from what we see.

If we can do anything else to help just let us know.

Craig, I thought I saw SSP offering a widget to make iTunes ratings easier on a show, but can’t find that now. Was I hallucinating? ??

    Hi there

So sorry for only getting back to you now on this.

Unfortunately we don’t have a widget available for this at the moment, however we’ll definitely look into this for a future release. Thanks so much for your feedback!
