podcast player shows in sidebar posts

    I have Seriously Simple Podcasting and List Category Posts plugin installed and using the standard 2013 theme. I have recent post content displayed in my sidebar using a List Category Posts widget.
    If I view a standard post everything behaves well, but if I view a podcast all the sidebar posts get the podcast player along with metadata added to the start of the excerpt.
    If I use an alternate plugin to show a post excerpt in the sidebar, sometimes I get the same issue, sometimes it behaves properly. Specifically:
    – List Category Posts shows the podcast player
    – Feature a Page Widget shows the poscast player
    – Featured Post Widget does not show the podcast player

    I could remove the player by unchecking “excerpt” in the “Audio player locations” podcast setting, but I cant it to show for podcast excerpts.

    Thanks for bringing this up – I understand why this is happening, but there’s not a lot I can do about it that I can see. I’ll look into the options though and wee what I can work out. The problem is that it would be impossible for me to cater for every possible widget that other plugins ass. I could, however, make sure this works correctly for the core WordPress widgets.

    That being said, I am hard at work on v1.9 that includes widgets built into the plugin that will let you show your podcast episodes and series inside widgets without worrying about this kind of issue.

    The widgets that will be included in v1.9 are:

    • Recent episodes (this is already in v1.8)
    • List of episodes from a single series
    • A single podcast episode widget

    That should cover most needs with regards to widgets for this plugin, but if there’s another widget that you think would be useful then please suggest it here.

    Thanks for the response Hugh. I have achieved what I want using flexible posts widget, which seems to behave in this scenario.
