podpress 8.8.6 breaks file selection

I’m currently using podpress 8.8.5.3 and it works fine. However. when I upgraded to the latest release the file in the media selection drop down list is prepended with HTTP:// when the post is saved.
eg select: mediafile.mp3
after the post is updated the file is listed as
[audio src="https://mediafile.mp3" /]
The when you view the post and try to play the file it cannot be found. The rss valiidator also picks up the same url and complains.
wp is installed in a sub folder but the podcast files are stored in a separate directery under the home directory.
