Hi, first and foremost I’d just like to say thanks for the Pods plugin as it has been an excellent addition to the website I help run.

I have though, seemingly struck a problem since Pods 2.8.xx was released (currently have the latest 2.8.5 update loaded).

On the home page of the website (https://i2s.anu.edu.au/), we have a number of featured post blocks, one of which is for highlighting YouTube video content and that depicts a chosen post with a linked title and video embed. The current post is ‘Action research and the transformation of knowledge creation’. The home page is structured using Visual Composer, the featured post is a WordPress custom widget and the widget called is a Pods – single item with Pods type/field selected.

When the Pods 2.8.0 update was run, the above post lost its video embed, which was replaced by the video URL alone. The other featured posts, which only depict title and text (and which use Pods) are working as expected.

I’ve tried a number of ways to get the video embed back, drawing off the comments in the Pods support forum and just tried a few different things like: re-saving the relevant Pod fields (on updating to 2.8.5); disabling caching plugin and re-enabling it; loading another video post; and reviewed the settings. The only thing that I could get to work was downgrading to Pods 2.7.31, which returns the video embed and all is then well.

Comparing the home page featured post code between Pods 2.7.31 and Pods 2.8.xx, iframe, js and other code are not evident after updating the Pods version.

I am now rather stuck for resolving this and I’d be very appreciative of any insight to fix it. Thanks!

    Hi @petrusd

Could you check the display settings of this field?
Also, how are you displaying the field? Through a shortcode?

    Cheers, Jory

    Hi Jory,

thank you for your reply; I am a Pods novice, so my responses need to be treated with caution, but to answer your questions:
    (i) I have checked the Pods display settings of the field but I can only go so far with understanding what is required, as I didn’t build the functionality that Pods is supporting and I am doubtful I’d recognise an incorrect or missing setting. What I can say is that I have made no changes to the Pods settings within the time frame that the recent updates cover (ie., if I revert to the 2.7.31 update the video embed issue is resolved).
(ii) The field is displayed using a template which uses magic tags.

I assume from your reply that you are of the opinion that this is a setting or coding issue unique to the website and not a Pods bug. If that is the case, it seems likly I’ll need to get help from somebody local to go through the settings and site functionality with me.

Any further thoughts you have would be very welcome.

Thanks for your time and best wishes,
    Peter

    Hi @petrusd

Unfortunately I cannot reproduce this issue. I created a oEmbed field and set a YouTube video. After that I simply used a magic tag to display the field through a template using {@fieldname}. This works great on my local installation.

Could this be a plugin conflict?
    https://docs.pods.io/faqs/plugin-theme-conflicts/

If not, could you create a full bug report on GitHub?
    https://github.com/pods-framework/pods/issues/new/choose

The most important part are the Migrate Packages in this case, please at least include the Pod which has this field and the template you are using for the magic tags.
That way I can import these in a local installation and try to reproduce the issue.

    Thank you!

    Cheers, Jory

    Hi Jory,

I’ve reopened this job, just to complete the circle as it were, and my apologies for the delay in reply, I’ve been slow in getting this done.

As you suggested (and thanks for the suggestion regards testing for a plugin conflict), I loaded the Health Check plugin and ran the troubleshooting mode. The result was that the loss of direct playability of the YouTube video embed was evident with only the Pods plugin and Visual Composer plugin operating under the Twenty Seventeen WordPress theme. I could not further differentiate between Pods and Visual Composer, as Visual Composer provides the framework in which Pods operates on the home page, and I lack the skill to work out which of the two appear to be implicated in the problem.

So, I have moved to your second suggestion, and created a full bug report and sent to your Pods GitHub forum (thanks again!).

    Best wishes,
    Peter

    Hi @petrusd

Pods does not include compatibility code for Visual Composer. So if VC supports the WordPress core metadata and their filters then Pods should work fine.

However, since you’ve opened on GitHub, let’s continue there so we can have more features in sharing information.

    Cheers, Jory
