We recently upgraded to version WP 4.8.2 and also updated Polylang to 2.2.3. We found an issue with this version of Polylang and had to rollback.

We also use WordPress MU Domain Mapping v 0.5.5.1 to map domains to our individual sites with our multi site instance. When this version of Polylang was enabled along with MU Domain Mapping plugin the domain mapping was not working. When viewing the site …..com/site it would not redirect to the mapped domain.

  • Hi @larisaintel,

Did you manage to get this working again, and with which versions of Polylang and WP? Have been struggling with the same issue for months. Can’t make the domain mapping work with Polylang.

Adding my comment to say that i have trouble configuring a Multisite with both Polylang and domain mapping! Did anyone managed to make it work?

@julianoe_ Yes, have been struggling with that myself months, and finally found a solution. Have been looking for days to find the place I posted it as, I know how frustrating it is, anywhere it’s here:
    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/domain-mapping-not-working-with-multisite/

    Mercator was the solution.
    From that link:

For anyone struggling with the same issue of Domain mapping not working with Polylang under a multisite setup please follow these steps:
    1. Park the domains you want to use for other languages under the main domain (eg. park domain.de under domain.com if you’re making a german localization). I can recommend VPSSIM which makes this easier. If you’re running your own VPS. Or check with your hosting provider about how to do that.
    2. Install https://github.com/humanmade/Mercator (replace the WordPress MU Domain Mapping if you already use that)
    3. Go under Network Admin > Sites > Edit Site > Aliases and setup the alternative languages domains.

This seems to work under both nginx and Apache (according to @tycoon12344) – personally tested with nginx under WordPress 4.9.3.

Hey @appscaptain ! Thanks for the answer !
I’m surprised i did not ever encounter Mercator in my research when configuting my multisite installation.

BUT : my case is not concerned by your 1. because i don’t use different domains for different languages. Instead i use the Polylang option of using mymaindomain.com/ for default language and mymaindomain.com/fr/ or mymaindomain.com/de/ for languages i use.

My problem is – the same as everyone else i think from what i read here and there – that the mapping seems to be incompatible with Polylang’s one and my site1.multisite.com normally redirected to mymaindomain.com is not anymore when i activate Polylang.

Would you suggestion help with that?

Sorry, but that has worked fine for me from the beginning.
