hi, I’m trying to set permanent link with “entry name”, but when I change it I get a 404 error. I tried deleting .htaccess but the result is the same.

If I disable every plugin but polylang doesn’t work. If I disable polylang it works.

    Any idea why? thanks

  • Same problem here with my sites on my WordPress multisite.

    Hey,

Same problem here. When I changed language in wp-admin to another – my permalinks are broken. Only way to fix it is flush permalinks by resave permalinks settings in wp-admin.

    I have multisite and polylang.

Hi, I have already flush permalinks by resave permalinks settings in wp-admin and its not working either.. :-/

Same thing happend here; all my permalinks were frustrated. Somehow the number “65” was put in my permalink (mymainsite\65\mypage). Looking further I found out that this was due to the fact that when I upload a picture, although it was put on the right language, polylang somehow created the language “65” and put that language to the picture. When I tried to change te language to “NL” in my case that didn’t work. Another language was created (“118”). When I deleted all created languages my permalinks were fine again. Thing is that this way I cannot upload any pictures and put them to the right language. Even not if I tried to change the language from “65” to “NL” later on. Please note I have media on in Polylang. This is something I will need to translate my media descriptions in my media gallery. Is there a solution to this problem?

Any news? My website having huge issues because this error ??

no news.. im afraid they are not going to answer ??

We have the same problem with a website of a client and it is really frustrated. The URLs from our custom posttype ‘vacancies’ are suddenly broken. It is not a multisite installation and media is not syncing on different languages. We have been trying for weeks to find out what is causing the problem, but we have not succeeded…

It doesn’t happen every day but sometimes.

Do those with the same problem have a workaround for this?

I’ve noticed this happening with a site of ours as well. The way I was able to reproduce it was by going to the Settings -> Permalinks page in the admin. Hitting this page breaks the permalinks for our custom post types that are using a taxonomy within the url (%CATEGORY%/%POSTNAME%/, etc…).

Then, if I go to the Languages -> Settings -> Custom post types and Taxonomies area and click “Save Changes”, the error goes away.

Not sure if there’s some kind of permalinks caching/updating happening in that process but that’s how I’m able to consistently trigger and fix the issue.

I’m also having a similar issue, whenever I change a theme option, any page shows the blog page, debugging shows that it takes the first part of the path as a language but we enabled the hide default language setting

So we have to go and uncheck this checkbox and check it again for it to work and the issue comes back very often

@hereswhatidid was right. I seem that you need to Resave that settings if any change to .httpaccess is done, manually, of by a plugin like MathRank SEO plugin. Just resave and it works again. Thank you.

The same problem here. It’s very frustrating. Is there a way to trigger the Polylang action for saving permanent links using PHP? So that the update of this setting can be handled, for example, by a cron?

Hello, I figured it out and wrote an article about it here:

    https://sparklewp.com/resolving-polylang-and-wordpress-permalink-structure-conflict-and-404-error/

It contains a piece of code for permanent fix.
