Polylang settings: 3 languages, En Fr Es then it’s the point of my question

    Hi,there!
First time on wordpress forums, english is not my mother tongue.

    Situation:

2 websites with a domain each.
    A new, an old.
Just want to keep the domain from the old one using the domain option in Polylang but also want to use the directory option to have a /es in spanish urls so:

    newsite.com
    newsite.com/es
    oldsite.com

Did not yet repoint the old domain, don’t know if differents menus will work again with domains option but it works fine with directory option.

Known solution is to buy a domain for the Es version with the unknown about the menus.
But what i want to know is if there is a trick to use both options simultaneously?

    Thanks

    Hi!

Sorry. It will work. You have to choose to use either multiple domains or directories. You can’t have both at the same time (things work quite differently internally).

    Sorry. It will work

    I meant: It won’t work.

    Ok Thanks,
Is it a strange demand i have or will it be a feature one day?

It’s not strange because I can understand why you want this. But I don’t plan this to be a feature one day because Polylang works differently when you are using domains or directories.

    Hi again,
I understand that the first option i use, changing to newsite.com/es is using rewriting rules and i’m trying to rewrite the url which had his own domain name, newsite.com/fr to oldsite.com.
Do you have any tips to do that?
I wrote rules in my .htacces but i don’t know if polylang is passing over it.
    Thanks, Vince.

    Hi Chouby,

There is a similar use case where it would be useful.

Having one website for multiple countries and some countries with more than one languages.

    Example:

mybrand.fr for the french website with only french language
mybrand.be/fr and mybrand.be/nl for the belgian website with french and dutch(~y) languages.

For now our only solution is two different websites for .fr and .be websites. As the content (products) are mostly the same it would have been nice to have only one product database and as many translations as needed for country/locales.

    Thanks !

    I agreed.

Then if i succes in what i’m trying do to do i’ll post the method here cause it’s the same issue.

    And why not using subdomains?

    (@vincentlb77)

    Like?
I’m not used to, i’m just beginning with this kind of domain/url things.

    newsite.com
    es.newsite.com
    oldsite.com

It’s not fully tested but I believe that it works out of the box.

Ah, ok i see, i’ll try to push this but i’m not the one in charge to choose the urls… when i’m the one in charge to do it :/
