Poor Adsense earnings from mobile phones

thanks for reaching out.

While not being directly related to the plugin, I am happy to give a few hints.

The sidebar is the worse placement on mobile since it breaks down below the content and you are lucky if 10% of your mobile visitors even see it.

AdSense still pays per clicks and an unseen ad does not receive any clicks.

I know that many publishers who work hard on their content have problems with ads there, but the truth is that AdSense only really works when put in front of the users, so in the content. Believe me, I have been there.

Not using Auto ads is good so that you have the chance to place ads manually where you best see fit. I would start experimenting with one responsive ad somewhere at the top of your content and see how it is going. You can later test it with other placements.

Thank you for your kind advice.
I reconfigured my Ads.
First I removed the sidebar ads on mobiles. Good.
Secondly I added a responsive add in the Content Top Sidebar both for PC and mobiles.
This works ok. Except that on mobile when Google does not display an add the whole space is reserved and that makes the screen look almost empty.
Is there a way to configure that the space is not reserved ( as can be done for fixed size ads)?

Hi Flamand,

I am happy to see you make progress.

The empty space below the navigation comes from an element in the theme, not the ad. If you know a bit about HTML then look at the padding of the element with the class content-top-sidebar-wrap. It has 60px and causes this.

Thank you for checking.
I implemented your advice. But I could not remove the padding entirely because I got an overwrite/lap on another page instead.
Still its ok for the time being. Revenue from mobiles went up greatly.

What still worries me is that the ad in the right sidebar is sometimes not displayed by Google at all and then leaves a huge empty space…

thanks for your feedback.

Technically, that ad looks good. What you could try is to create an ad unit in your AdSense account and import that into Advanced Ads instead of creating it dynamically through Advanced Ads. That would give you the opportunity to check the fill rate of that ad later.
