Poor attempt at Squarespace
-
I appreciate Squarespace and Wix maybe biting at the heels, but as someone else mentioned here in the one star reviews WordPress is way out front in the CMS race

Obviously WordPress has evolved massively from the early blog days which offered internet presence to non-coders. It has, however, become a totally different product and is dominating the market for those very changes.
If WordPress is trying to capture that novice market again, then it will have to be careful not to damage its reputation for the users who currently have pushed WordPress into such a dominating position. Squarespace is far superior than this offering for the novice user, simple features simply accessed. At the default settings Gutenberg has way to many mouse clicks to uncover features that are commonly used. Many people learn by clicking buttons to see what happens, but if you hide those buttons then many will not even know where to look.
I am also concerned for the integration change over time for plugins – this alone will have me staying with the classic layout for years to come.
I have this feeling this attempt to dumb it down will result in dull display of content.
If this block layout is all important why not absorb the very successful WPBakery Page Builder. I have novice clients successfully using this and it also offers access to advanced layout features as their confidence builds – these advanced layout features are not cluttering the interface but are easily accessible when required.
