• It’s the end of 2019, and I am updating my initial review. Much has improved, and I am confident in the direction the new editor is taking.

Below is my older review, when Gutenberg was still in beta:

I am testing version 2.1.0 of Gutenberg on a WordPress site that makes use of 13 custom taxonomies and custom fields.

The site is not using any extension: taxonomies are declared in the usual way (register_taxonomy), and custom fields are the native custom fields.

In the Gutenberg editor, in the Extended Settings:

    – The names of the taxonomies are listed, but I cannot interact with.
    – The custom fields dont show up at all.

I hope those are bugs that will be sorted out. I am quite worried about the backward compatibility, especially in regards to Custom Fields.
