• I would only recommend using this plugin combined with caching.
Generating a shortlink from Bit.ly in the header on every page load is a massive and inefficient overhead.

I use New Relic to monitor resources and speed and my response time went from 5800ms to 1000ms the second I turned off this plugin.

    Hello Teeks,

I’d like to offer my 2 cents about your experiences. In my opinion, the plugin I created is lightweight using Bit.ly’s OAuth 2 API. The performance issues you have experienced most likely has to do with Bit.ly’s servers and authentication methods, and is outside of our control. Similarly, for sites that run “like boxes” and social media “widgets”, it’s common to see load time spikes as well… So caching is definitely a must to help out. Hopefully, over time, Bit.ly has optimized its CDN’s and performance to faciliate a snappier API.

    Denis
