Popular Category Plugin?

  • Hello Everyone,

    I was just wondering, is there currently a way to display certain “Popular Categories.” The reason is, My blog has over 50 seperate categories (celebrity names). And since it is the celebrity world, the celebrity who is written about changes with time.

    So I was wondering, is there a plugin that displays the Popular Categories posted about for the past 7 days?

  • Hi, to my knowledge, there are no plugins that do what you need.

    Though it might be best to clarify what exactly it is that you want first. How do you want to determine your Popular Categories? Do you want to use the number of category views for each category, articles posted to each category, or views of posts in each category for the past 7 days?

    In the first and last case, you might want to look at and try extending Alex King’s Popularity Contest plugin.

    I am looking to do it based on what category has received the most posts in the past 7 days.

    Oh, and Hello Zmang, once again a large help – I have exchanged some emails with you about adding static information to category pages.

    Lol, that was you? Should have guessed from the celebrity blog. ??

    Anyway, to my knowledge, a plugin doing exactly what you need doesn’t exist (hopefully I’m wrong here). I’ll see what I can do though.

    datasta: Try this newly-coded Most Popular Categories by Posts plugin. I’ve put it at v0.1 for now, but it should do the trick – at least I hope so.
