Yes, storing individual views in the database is required for the plugin to be able to provide certain features – like the ability to display popular posts per hour for example. Otherwise the plugin wouldn’t be able to provide these features @lucidgen.
Please have a look at the Performance section to learn how you can configure the plugin to lessen the impact on your site’s overall performance, including -but not limited to- how to batch insert views data into the database (similar to how older versions of the plugin worked) via the Pageviews Cache feature. Or you can just limit the amount of data the plugin stores on your database to keep it as lean as possible.
