Same issue as in this post: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/pop-up-keeps-repeating/

I’ve created a popup with a trigger to show on specific pages only. I also set a cookie with “1 month”.

When the specific page loads, the popup shows and the cookie is set. However, when you reload the page, the popup appears again, even though the cookie exists.

    jQuery.fn.popmake.last_open_trigger shows "Auto Open - Delay: 1000"

  • Hello @mw108,

Without reference to your site URL, I can only speculate at to the possible root cause. Off the top of my head, I would check that the cookie set to manage the popup is actually linked to the trigger. A trigger and cookie that are not linked will allow the trigger to continue working.

    See: https://docs.wppopupmaker.com/article/358-popup-settings-box-cookies-option-settings

If you respond back with the site URL, the support team can inspect your popup settings to make sure that the trigger and cookie are properly linked.

If the trigger and cookie _are properly linked_, then you’ll need to consider another source (e.g. code from another plugin or theme) that might be interfering with Popup Maker’s expected behavior.

Thanks for the fast reply! ??

That was indeed the issue. The cookie wasn’t linked to the trigger.

When creating the popup trigger, it isn’t clear (or self-explaining) what “Would you like to set up a cookie as well?” really means at this time. It is like “Why would I want to set up a cookie at this time?” Because only the next step says “Cookies control the repeat display of a popup” and you can “Add New Cookie”. And only when you edit the trigger again, you see the hint “Choose which cookies will disable this trigger?”

So maybe this is a bit confusing. There should be a hint or a better explanation when creating a trigger, that setting up a cookie now is mandatory if you want the cookie to control the display of a popup.

@mw108 – To be fair, it kinda does ;).

    1. Before you ever click Add Trigger, there is a link for both cookies & triggers docs explaining things in detail if you click the (i) icons.
    2. When adding a trigger, it asks if you would like to also set up a cookie. If you choose to do so then, it automatically links them together.
    3. Not all setups need them linked. Consider a cookie dropped on close of popup 1 that is used as a condition for popup 2 or some other script on your site.

I will make note though that a quick link in the Add New trigger modal could be a great improvement on the status-quo.

Hope that helps. If your issue is resolved please take a moment to rate and review the plugin or support.
