Portfolio in a Day
-
I needed to quickly add a nice looking portfolio of projects to my website. I’d seen such a feature with various themes and plugins, but was never impressed by the implementation and interface of them. Looking for a plugin to give me a quick and easy solution, Huge-IT Portfolio came up nicely in results, but I worried that the free version might be too simple as some have complained.
I was happy to find that the default feature set is a fantastic solution with beautiful responsive output, and I got a great portfolio up in one day. There’s little learning curve, it works as expected, and I was able to do some basic customization with HTML tags and custom CSS classes. It ties into the Media Library, so it’s easy to leverage existing assets into the portfolio, no re-uploading or silly URL cut-and-paste constraints.
This is what a freemium solution should provide! The developers have given typical users a free solution for a contemporary WordPress portfolio. Sure, there are locked-down features exposed in the free version that require a Pro license—that’s how the Freemium ecosystem operates: if you have specific requirements for your solution, then pay a little for the full code set. Else, the nag screen atop the plugin panel can be deactivated, and one can easily ignore the Pro sections of the plugin.
